Baby Cade's birth story:
I had gone to the Doctor on Tuesday March 17th thinking that I must be getting pretty close to having this little guy. The Doctor said I was dilated to a 4 and about 90% effaced. He said the odds of this baby coming soon were pretty high. We made an appt for the following Tuesday just in case he didnt decided to come before then but I was certainly hoping that he was going to make his appearance sooner than later. Thursday we hit 39 weeks! Further than I had been with Lincoln or Norah. Every day I woke up thinking ok maybe today is going to be the day--- but really didnt feel any strong contractions at all until Friday morning. It was about 6 am when I kind of got the feeling that it as going to be the day. The contractions weren't really strong or consistent but it was more than I was having before so I was hopeful. When Adam left to work around 730 I told him not to go anywhere far because I felt like it could be the day. By about 10 am I could tell that these contractions were legit and today was going to be the day. I called my Mom to make sure she would be around to watch the kids and then I called Adam and told him to come home cause we needed to go to the hospital. Lincoln was at pre-school until 1130 so I thought that would be perfect to pick him up, drop them off at my Parent's house and then head to the hospital. Adam got home and it was a good thing because the contractions really started to be painful and were quite consistent. I had been timing them for the last hour and they were lasting about a minute and were averaging a bit over every 5 minutes.... but as soon as we went to get Lincoln they really started picking up. So we dropped the kids off and rushed on over. As always that 10 minute drive seemed sure long but we made it there around Noon. They immediately took me back to the triage room and had me checked. At this point I was dilated to a 7 and pretty much ready to have this baby. So they checked me into a room, got the IVs going, and called for the Anesthesiologist by my request. It was about a hour later that I was given the epidural! (hallelujah) That hour or so was miserable and seemed to last forever. Once I got the epidural things were smooth sailing. The Doc came in a bit later and I was fully dilated.... pretty much my water sac was holding the baby in. So he broke my water and then they waited a bit for the baby to work it's way down a bit. It was about 2:40 I am guessing when we started to push. It took probably 4 or 5 big pushes through contractions for the little guy to arrive! He did take just a bit more than Norah and we soon found out why because he weighed 8 lbs 4 oz. Almost 2 more pounds than either Lincoln or Norah. He was 19.5 inches long so the same length but he was visibly chubbier than both of them. I loved seeing the little chub on his legs--- and his cheeks of course. One of the first things the doc said was, "He has some cheeks on him!" Love it. We were ecstatic that our little guy had made his way to us. What a blessing it is to be in the presence of a sweet new spirit of our Heavenly Father. We felt so blessed that everything went so well with the delivery and we have a healthy, happy baby Boy to add to our family. We had a really hard time this go around coming up with a name. We had gone over lists and tried to agree on something and just could never decide and commit. We had narrowed it down to either Damon or Connor about a week before he was born, but about 2 days before he was born, I saw the name Cade somewhere random and thought I liked it. So I texted that to Adam and he liked it so we added it to the mix. It wasn't til the morning of the delivery that we had fully decided to go with Cade. For some reason it had just fit better than anything else we had considered so that is what we went with. Cade William (after Grandpa Weber) Butterfield. We stayed the night there at the hospital. Everything went quite well.... other than Breastfeeding which is NOT my favorite thing to do(although we did figure it out enough to get some food in the little guy). We also did all the testing, saw all the Docs we needed to see, and Passed!! We checked out around 11 am March 21st and headed home to introduce little Cade to his new home. He is a great baby so far. Pretty mellow, doesn't cry too much, and sleeps! Typical new baby stuff. We are still working on getting the eating thing down to perfection but I must say he is getting better on day 3. Lincoln and Norah were so excited to meet their little brother. They couldn't stop smiling and Norah couldn't stop saying baby and wanted to hold, touch, or bug baby Cade. If he is around she wants to be part of whatever he is doing. We Love our little CadE!
