an IOWA turkey day.

We made our first trip back to Iowa since moving away.. and it was a great little vacation.   We hit the road Wednesday morning- drove the 8 hours - and arrived just in time to go to our previous Bishop's house for a pre-Thanksgiving Dinner.  We were so lucky to get an invite and had a great time visiting with some of our friends from Iowa. Not to mention the food was delicious.... Bishop and Sister CS outdid themselves. We had a little bit of everything and of course ended with Whiteys Ice Cream and Pumpkin Pie. We then played some crazy rounds of PIT.  Good times for sure.  We were also so blessed to have friends let us crash at their house while they were out of town- Thank You Jordan and Camilla. You guys are the best and we owe you!  Thursday morning we went and visited Chet and met his new little daughter. She is a cutie.  We then lucked out because Penny flew out from Utah to be in Iowa for the weekend to be with family.

We picked her up at the airport and headed to Mechanicsville for a yummy Thanksgiving dinner that Grandpa Willie surprised us by making everything for us! We were spoiled and not expecting him to make it all--- Ham, Cornish game hens, Stuffing, Sweet dressing, fruit salad, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie and ice cream.  It was fun to be able to spend time with them on this day of Thanksgiving.  We are truly blessed for so much that we have been given.

Thursday night we attempted to go shopping but as soon as we walked into Walmart at 10:10 pm and couldn't even walk without rubbing shoulders with everyone- we bailed and went home to bed.   We aren't hardcore enough for Black Friday craziness ( I prefer Cyber Monday where I get to sit on my couch in my pajamas and order my gifts).   So Friday came and I did make it out to the Outlets later in the morning and got a few things.  We then headed to Carver-Hawkeye Arena to watch Iowa wrestle. Adam was excited that they were having a home dual while we were there. He watched 2 of the duals and if he would have had his way he would have watched wrestling the entire day.
After the wrestling match we met up with Abe and Erin Sheffield and had some BBQ at Wildwood. We loved catching up with them-- and wish they were in Kentucky with us to hang out more often. Friday night was the worst night ever.... for Lincoln.  Pretty sure it was even worse than those first few weeks after he was born.  I don't think he slept longer than a hour at a time the entire night. I felt so bad or him. He kept waking up just screaming and then he wouldn't settle down. Let's just say that it made for a LONG night.  Poor Penny who was stuck in our same hotel room-- she had to deal with it all as well. The next day he started to get a little bit of a runny nose so I am thinking that maybe he was starting to feel yucky (or maybe it was because his nap schedule, or lack thereof of naps, had something to do with it). Saturday we met up with the Owens for a quick lunch while watching football.  We use to watch sports with them all the time so it was fitting that we did it again. So fun to see them as well.  We then headed to Aunt Carols in Marion and had a good visit with her. Our last stop was back up to Mechanicsville for one last visit with Gpa and Gma Weber.  Of course they had to take us to Hale or supper.  So fried chicken for dinner it was.  Back at their place we had a fun time visiting and smooching up on Lincoln!
Sat. night was much better for Lincoln-- he was back to his normal sleeping habits.... boy were we grateful for that. Sunday morning we packed up and headed back on the road to Kentucky-- Lincoln was a champ as usual traveling.  We had a great time but it felt so good to be home!!
