The first picture is of me in front of the downtown area
of Louisville.
I am actually standing in Indiana. So I got to visit both
Kentucky and Indiana. See how big that
river is? It is the Ohio River and it is
HUGE! Way bigger than any river I have ever seen in Utah. Luckily they had a big bridge so I was able to
drive over it and make it safely into Kentucky.
I think I would have got pretty tired if I had to swim across it.
I was so happy
because I made to Kentucky just in time for Halloween. I got dressed up as Harry
Potter and went Trick-or-Treating. I got
so much candy, and ate it all in one night.
I think I ate way too much because my tummy hurt when I was done eating
it all. I guess next year I better not eat all my candy in one night.
I also saw some really cool things while I was in
Kentucky. One of my favorite places was the Louisville Slugger Museum and Bat
Factory. I love baseball so it was cool
to see how baseball bats are made. See
that picture of me in front of the
Gigantic bat, that bat is the World’s Biggest Bat!
It is made of steel, it weighs
68,000 pounds and stands 120-feet tall (that is the same length as over 3
school buses parked in front of each other.)
I also saw one of the Bats Babe Ruth used to hit lots of his homeruns.
Another place that Louisville
is famous for is Churchill Downs.
This
is a well known horse race track that first opened in 1875- that was over 135
years ago. There are lots of horse races held here but the most famous one is
the Kentucky Derby . This race is held every year on the first Saturday in May.
It is 1 ¼ miles long. This race is known as the “Most Exciting Two minutes in
Sports.” The name of the horse that won
this year is, “Animal Kingdom.”
Do you like to eat at
Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and Kentucky Fried Chicken? I know I do.
See the picture of me in front of the ‘KFC Yum! Center,’ that is the name of the company that owns
those fast food places.
‘Yum!’ is the world's largest fast food restaurant company—nearly
38,000 restaurants around the world in more than 110 countries. The first KFC
was originally in Kentucky but then the first franchise of KFC was actually in
Salt Lake. Cool huh?
I also visited this neat Water Tower.
It is the oldest ornamental water tower in
the world. It was built 1857-1860 and is 169 feet tall. That is even taller than the baseball
bat. They made it look like a
Roman Column. The tower was damaged by a tornado in 1890 and was named a
National Landmark in 1971.
