A Forgotten Passport & some California Sun.

2011 started with a slight hiccup...  Adam was planning on going to China for school for 10 days- leaving on Jan. 4th. well that was until he woke up on Jan. 1st and realized that his passport was tucked away in our apartment in Iowa City.  Major problem when we are still in St. George.  I think we were both slightly freaking out. Of course it was a holiday(and a Sat) so NO mailing agencies were open. Of the 365 days in the year, he had to realize he left his passport home on one of the rare days Fed Ex is actually closed and doesn't do any sort of shipping. It would have been nice to realize it a week before-- or even a few days earlier. :) The other problem.... no one has a key or way to get into our apartment. So first we had to call our apartments emergency number(again no one works on New Years Day), and get one of the apartment's maintenance men go and unlock our apartment. We then had to have a friend find the passport in our house. Luckily we were able to find someone that was in town (Thanks Steve- we really owe you big time) and after the $85 fee charged for the emergency call and maintenance, Steve had the passport in hand.  Yeah! Luckily Adam didn't leave til 4:00 p.m. on that coming Tuesday so we were able to have Steve ship his passport overnight on Monday (for another hefty little charge). Fed Ex delivered as promised and Adam received it Tuesday at 10 am... 6 hours to spare. We were def. saying our prayers of thanks that we received it just in time. Next time we fly internationally I think making sure we have our passport will be first on our list! (Adam is so far loving his China experiences-- more to come with pictures once he gets home).

While Adam is enjoying his time in China-- I wasn't about to just sit around and do nothing, so I took advantage and headed to San Diego for a few days to hang out with two of my very best friends JoAnna and Blair. We figure we need to get all the traveling in we can before April! Plus with Adam away it was perfect for me to spend some good quality girl time with two amazing friends.  I had a great time.  Mostly just chatting and catching up. I loved the company an the SUN! I can't tell you how much I loved being able to go outside in a T-shirt or just a light jacket. The cold is def. over-rated.  They live right in the city, so it was fun to be able to walk down to the coast-- to seaport village and enjoy the ocean.  I forgot how much I love the ocean and the water. If I can't have the mountains it would be nice to have the ocean at least. Iowa needs to figure out how to get one or the either. ha.  Some of the other things we did were...
-Eat in Old Towne and go to the Mormon Battalion Visitor Center.
It is newly renovated and was pretty awesome. Def. would recommend anyone going to San Diego to check it out. I learned a thing or two and we were lucky enough to became honorary members of the battalion...
Here Jo and I are in our goofy looking aprons panning for gold.  I found 3 pieces. Now if only the local bank would accept them.
-The next morning we went to Little Italy and went to their Farmer's Market. I loved seeing all the beautiful fresh fruit and veggies in the dead of the winter...
-One of my fave parts of the visit was going to La Jolla and going hiking along the ocean and then walking along the ocean. So beautiful!
B and I on the Beach!
JoAnna and I- pretty sure this was the first time my legs had seen daylight in months.
Of course being the baseball fans that we are (I have these ladies to thank for part of my Red Sox-baseball addiction), we had to check out the Padres stadium. It got me excited for baseball season-- although it is still 3 months away.
I had such a great time with you ladies! It was so good to catch up and chill with you two! Can't wait to visit again.
