On Monday, we arrived in Cairo around 830 am. Nassar and Sherif, our Egyptian tour guides were there waiting to take us on our adventure. We weren't quite sure what we were getting ourselves into but we were ready.
We first drove to Nassar’s house in a sketchy taxi. Met his family. Got on our camels 🐪 ‘mickey mouse’ and ‘oscar’. Went to the Giza plateau. First we went in the pyramid- it was a quick in and out, basically went down inside to a big room, took a few pictures, and headed out. It was So hot- Over 100 degrees in the Sahara desert. and they made sure I had the scarf covering our heads. We rode the camels around the area and took about 100 pics of us with the pyramids, Sphinx, and with the camels. The camel rides were worth it. Bumpy and awkward but worth the experience for sure. Next we were onto to the “museum” which was nothing more than a tactic to get you to one of Nassar's buddies stores so he can sale you a bunch of Egyptian garbage. We had to listen to a spill about natural lotus perfumes made there and then learned how they make papyrus paper. $40 later with some lemon perfume and a stuffed camel we got ourselves the heck out of there. Haha. I think we would have paid $100 to get away. Last was the final bit of our camel ride through the dirty, garbage filled streets of the little village near the pyramids. As I was sitting there on the camel observing the crazy, chaotic, dirty life these people live, I was filled with overwhelmingly gratitude for my life and living situations. Nassar finished our day with picking up some local foods like pita, falafel, beans, potatoes and a mystery meat we didn’t dare touch. We got to sit there in his living room on the floor and eat our traditional meal. At this point we were just ready to go. Haha. We were praying we weren't going to get sick. After Nassar made sure he got his adequate payment, we were on our way back to the airport. It was so worth leaving the airport on our 8 hour layover to see this amazing place. Dirty and sketchy yes, but so neat at the same time. We were def. happy to out of Egypt though. It was not a place of peace.
Getting on the camels.... the adventure begins.
On the Pyramids. They were huge and you dont realize how massive the stones are until you are standing on them.
Going down in the pyramid.
It was so so so dirty everywhere.
At this point when we were in Nassars house, eating food on the floor, we weren't quite sure what we had gotten ourselves into. It was and experience to say the least.
This is heading back to the airport. Pretty sure Adam couldn't have been more happy to have a soda and being heading back. :)
