For Spring Break we decided to head down to Arizona and visit Whitney and Josh. We wanted to get out of town, had kept talking about visiting them, but didn't want to go in the dead of the summer. So March was the perfect time. Our first stop was Seven Magic Mountains. It was just south of Vegas out in the dessert. An artist has had these fake rocks designed and placed ever so strategically. Although not much to do there, the kids loved running around and finding their favorite of the rocks. It was a good pit stop even if it added a little bit of time to our trip. The first night we stayed in Kingman at our hotel. We had never stayed there so we figured to break up the long drive it would be the perfect time to use our free room. We wer impressed and overall had a great, quick stay.
Damon stayed in the van while we were out exploring... but I had to get him out of the van for at least one pic.... you can see the rocks way out in the background.
It was a lot of fun to see Whit and Josh's little townhouse. They have done a fabulous job making it their own with lots of renovations. They were kind enough to let us crash with them. I think they may have regretted that decision after we were there a few nights. Our normal very happy Damon got sick the day we got there and was just miserable the entire time. He had a fever and just didnt want to eat. Poor kid. This made for some long nights, especially since we were in a foreign place with not normal sleeping arrangements.
Here are a few of the highlights of what we did.
Went swimming at Josh and Whitney's Pool - in the rain.
Visited Brett and Shireen Olsen and they fed us a delicious Mexican Dinner. Lincoln loved playing with Sam, and Norah was in heaven playing with all of their daughter Sariah's shopkins. Cade was happy to be a part of it all. We had a great visit with Brett and Shireen and realized we need to plan a trip with them sometime.
Other highlights were-
The Aquarium... although small, the kids still enjoyed it.
Our favorite adventure was Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch that is south of the Phoenix area. It is like a petting zoo but on steroids. We got to feed little donkeys, birds, sheep, goats, bunnies, ostriches, sting rays, ducks, and who knows what else. Even our timid little Norah participated in a few of the feedings.
As we were packing up and loading our stuff in the van, Cade wanted to help. So he put Lincoln's very heavy backpack on. As he was walking out to the van, the backpack pulled him backward and he fell flat on his back. It was hilarious but he was def crying. haha. He was just trying to help.
On our way out of town we stopped by McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park in Scottsdale and the kids loved it. It had a Carousel, Playgrounds, and a whole building of miniature train models and villages. We spent a couple hours there, had lunch, and then headed out on the road for our long drive home. I would call it a success of a trip. We loved spending time with Josh and Whit and experiencing a little bit of the Mesa- Phoenix area.
